Meet The Coaches

Sanchez Hughley

Founder & Head Coach

Coach Sanchez Hughley founded Hughley Hoopsters in 2011, immediately after graduating college, where he played every year and served as team captain at FAU. Over the past decade, he has trained more than 1,000 athletes, elevating their skills and preparing them for higher levels of competition. Through his guidance, numerous players have advanced to Division I, II, and III programs, as well as professional careers overseas.


Coach Hughley has worked with elite talents, including Jae Crowder of Marquette University, and has trained high-level professional players. His program has achieved significant success, winning over 50 Division I championships and building a presence internationally with a team in Italy, where he travels every summer to coach and train.

After a nine-year hiatus, Coach Hughley has returned with renewed focus and ambition, striving to build an even greater legacy. With a commitment to doubling the impact of Hughley Hoopsters and rectifying past challenges, he is determined to take the program to unprecedented heights.

Nicholas Francis

Associate Head Coach

Nicholas Francis is a disciplined and detail-oriented basketball coach committed to developing complete athletes both on and off the court. As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Coach Francis brings a strong foundation of accountability, leadership, mental toughness, and discipline into his coaching philosophy.

 

Known for teaching the game at a high level, Coach Francis emphasizes fundamentals, basketball IQ, and game-speed decision-making. His coaching style reflects a collegiate approach, centered around structure, execution, preparation, and attention to detail to help athletes compete at the next level.

 

Specializing in player development, Coach Francis focuses on improving each athlete’s skill set, confidence, and overall understanding of the game while instilling habits that translate to winning basketball and long-term success. His teams and training sessions are recognized for their intensity, organization, and high standards.

 

With a team-first mindset, Coach Francis is dedicated to building a culture that prioritizes development, accountability, and character over individual recognition. His mission is to develop not only skilled basketball players, but disciplined, coachable, and resilient young men prepared for success both on and off the court.

Emmanuel Onuama

Coach

Emmanuel Onuama is a law student, athlete, and sports performance professional with a deep foundation in basketball development and sports business. He is currently pursuing his Juris Doctor at Nova Southeastern University while completing a Master’s degree in Sports Business from NYU, building a rare blend of legal, business, and on-court expertise.

 

A former forward for both Columbia University and NYU Men’s Basketball, Emmanuel has remained embedded in the game through elite training environments, including working with NBA prospects under LIFT Sports Management. His experience spans athlete development, performance programming, private training, and coaching, with hands-on roles across New York and Florida.

 

Driven, disciplined, and team-oriented, Emmanuel brings a first-hand understanding of athletics paired with advanced academic training—positioning him to impact the sports industry from the court, the training floor, and the boardroom.

Matthew Solow

Coach

Matthew Solow is a passionate coach and leader who believes sports are a powerful tool for building confidence, character, and teamwork. With experience coaching youth athletes across multiple age groups and officiating competitive basketball games, he brings a well-rounded understanding of player development, game strategy, and sportsmanship. Matthew is recognized for his positive energy, strong communication skills, and ability to foster inclusive, growth-focused team cultures. He is currently studying Sports Management at Lynn University and is committed to making a lasting impact in youth sports and athlete development.

Georgios Filippopoulos

Coach

Georgios Filippopoulos is a basketball coach with Hughley Elite Basketball, where he works closely with 5th and 6th grade teams while also providing private training focused on individual player development. His coaching centers on building strong fundamentals, basketball IQ, and confidence—helping athletes grow both on and off the court.

 

Originally from Athens, Greece, Georgios began playing basketball at the age of eight and continued through the semi-professional level, competing with Athlitiki Enosi Neas Kifisias (A.E.N.K.) and Gymnastiko Syllogo Kifisias (G.S.K.). He relocated to Florida with his family in 2019, where he has since coached with the French School of Boca, Amazing Athletes, and now Hughley Elite Basketball.

 

An FAU graduate and current J.D. candidate, Georgios remains deeply connected to the game through coaching and mentorship. His experience as a small forward for Division I clubs in Greece shaped his emphasis on fundamentals, mentality, and skill development. His coaching philosophy extends beyond athletics, prioritizing discipline, confidence, and a strong work ethic.

 

Georgios values the Hughley Hoopsters community and is committed to the growth of every athlete he works with. His mission is to share his passion and knowledge of the game while helping players reach the next level—whether that path leads to high school, college, or professional basketball.

Amaya Scott

Girls Head Director

Amaya Scott is a 26-year-old athlete, communicator, and mentor born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Sunrise, Florida. A passionate competitor with a deep love for the game, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications while building an impressive basketball career rooted in dedication, leadership, and perseverance.

 

For the past 15 years, basketball has been a driving force in Amaya’s life. During her collegiate career, she achieved tremendous success, winning three basketball championships and earning recognition as a Preseason Player of the Year, along with several additional accolades and honorable mentions. Her accomplishments reflect not only her talent on the court but also her commitment to hard work and excellence.

 

Amaya’s journey continued beyond college as she launched her professional basketball career internationally in Luxembourg, gaining valuable experience while competing at the next level and broadening her perspective through the game.

 

Today, Amaya is passionate about giving back and using her experiences to inspire others. She is excited to share her knowledge of basketball while teaching the importance of work ethic, discipline, and consistency. Through mentorship and leadership, she hopes to help the next generation understand that success is built not only through talent, but through dedication and the willingness to put in the work every day.

Jordan Mayo

Coach

Coach Jordan Mayo brings a strong passion for player development, mentorship, and teaching the game the right way. With both playing and coaching experience, Coach Mayo focuses on building confidence, discipline, basketball IQ, and fundamentals while helping athletes grow both on and off the court.

• Averaged 15 PPG and 7 RPG as a senior

• 2008–2009 Palm Beach County All-Star Team Selection

• Timberlake Camp Tournament Coach (‘08–‘12)
• Coached and refereed boys basketball ages 10–14 during summer programs and tournaments

Coach Mayo has spent years working with young athletes, helping them improve their skills, understand team basketball, and compete with confidence. His ability to connect with players and teach the fundamentals of the game makes him a valuable part of the Hughley Hoopsters coaching staff.

He believes in creating a competitive but positive environment where athletes are challenged to work hard, stay disciplined, and develop a true love for the game.
